Yay. Time for another Monday Art/Journal Prompt. This week I thought it would be fun to practice lettering. It seems that everyone always says they don’t like to add written words to their art journal pages because they don’t like their own handwriting.
First of all, everyone’s writing is unique and special to them. It is part of you, so embrace it. You don’t need to copy other people’s writing style, yours is perfect for you! That being said, if you truly want to write differently, then you have to practice. One way to do that is to create your own alphabets, which is really kind of fun to do.
Or copy some other alphabets and just practice writing them over and over again. Calligraphy books are great for this kind of practice. Or you can find some typography books that are fun to practice from as well. Practice makes perfect, right? Perhaps you will find some that really appeal to you and you can use them in your art journaling.
You can just write the alphabets directly into your journal pages. They make a great page, especially to refer back to later. Or practice on paper and then create a page with your new-found lettering talent and write a quote into your journal.
Just have fun with it. There is no need to stress about perfection here. This is all about playing with lettering. Enjoy!
