Another Monday is here! And I do believe that Summer is finally here too! It certainly took its own sweet time to get here, especially since we hardly had any Spring at all this year, and not much of a Winter either. Strange weather lately. But I really love Summer and am glad it is finally here.
One of the best things about Summer is all the Farmer’s Markets that pop up everywhere. Around here there are quite a few, located in various parts of the city or in nearby small communities. You can pick and choose which ones to go to depending on where you live or where you might be traveling to. And they are on different days too, so you can go to a different one every day of the week. Isn’t that fabulous?
I thought this week’s challenge could be to visit a local Farmer’s Market and find some fresh produce to use. Or something else. Some of the markets around here have got meat or fish or honey or preserves, and sometimes some craft items and maybe fresh flowers too. So pack up your reuseable shopping bags and head out to visit some markets. Talk to the various vendors about what they are selling and how to use it if you aren’t really sure. Try something new that you haven’t ever eaten before and see if you like it. Support the local farmers and vendors and help your local economy.
Take the time to enjoy the experience. Talk to the farmers. Talk to other shoppers. Sit under an umbrella and drink an iced tea and eat fresh strawberries. Stop and smell the freshness of the produce or the flowers that are being sold. Take your kids or your grandkids with you and teach them about where their food comes from, and let them pick out something that they would like. There is just something good about being able to pick fresh produce and eat it.
Slow down and take in the summer day.
